Field Investigation Observations

Land Use

On-site Landuse
A Delaware Tech parking lot covers this site. Tree planters ring the block that is devoted to parking, and one building which appears to be used for communications.

Adjacent Landuse
The land use around this site is a mix of commercial and educational uses. To the west are S.G. Williams Roofing and a vacant lot. North across 3rd Street is a large Delaware Tech classroom building. To the east are more classroom buildings extending down Orange Street from Fourth to Second Street. A Childhood Development Center is located at the end of the Delaware Tech complex along Second Street. What appears to be a communications building occupies 211 Orange Street surrounded by parking areas. South of the site is a large parking garage and further south across 2nd Street is more parking.

Presence of Children

The area around the Delaware Tech campus is primarily in commercial use. A daycare facility is located one and a half blocks to the east, and a Catholic school three blocks north, but otherwise there were no signs of children in the vicinity. University students heavily use the area. It is possible the large paved surfaces are used by youth after hours.

Exposed Soil

The only areas of exposed soil are tree planters along Tatnall and 3rd Streets.
