Field Investigation Observations

Land Use

On-site Landuse
The Riverfront Market and old B&O Train Station are located in the proximity of this old tannery warehouse location. The specific areas inside the warehouse extent include the parking area and islands outside the Riverfront Market, a section of the Shipley Street extension and landscaped areas around the train station.

Adjacent Landuse
This area is entirely in commercial use. The Riverfront Market dominates the area. The Amtrak rail lines are just north of the area separating the site from the rest of the city. The Christiana River and river walk are located immediately to the south. A city park along the riverfront sits across Market Street to the east.

Presence of Children

No children live in or around the site although one may expect children to accompany their parents on shopping trips and possibly come in contact with the soil.

Exposed Soil

Landscaped islands around the parking lot and plantings at the B&O Museum are the only areas of soil interaction. These locations are very well cared for, and no exposed soil was found on the site.
