Field Investigation Observations

Land Use

On-site Landuse
The northern most block is occupied by a Catholic Charities building and parking area with small grass islands. Continuing south a gas station and car wash occupy the block from 3rd to 4th Streets. From 3rd to 2nd Streets is the Diver car sales lot. The Love Your Car Detailing Shop sits at the southwest corner of 2nd and Webb Streets. The Small Wonder Daycare uses the remaining three quarters of the block from Lancaster Avenue to 2nd Street.

Adjacent Landuse
The area around this site is a mix of residential and commercial use. Beyond the site itself the area is primarily residential particularly to the north and west. The area along the railroad tracks to the southeast is dominated by auto repair, mechanical and trades. To the northwest and immediately north of the site are a number of small shopping plazas, a childcare center, caterer, deli and a 7-11 store. Closer to Lancaster Avenue commercial uses are found along Greenhill Avenue including a Wawa, car wash, Kitchen Gallery, AC Delco Auto Parts, an eye center, family center, tile business, printer and dry cleaner. As one moves north along Greenhill Avenue or west away from the site the neighborhood quickly transitions to row houses.

Presence of Children

Residences are found all around this area. Children regularly frequent the stores north of Catholic Charities and Wawa to the south. Two daycare facilities are located on the site (Small Wonder Daycare at the southern portion of the site) or adjacent to it (across Webb Street from the gas station).

Exposed Soil

The vast majority of this site is paved. Grass and small areas of exposed soil are found on the islands around Catholic Charities and the gas station. Behind the Small Wonder Day Care, part of their play area is grass and soil and a large scrub covered slope extending up to Lancaster Avenue.

Area covered in grass or mulch: 32564 Area of directly exposed soil: 9180
