Field Investigation Observations

Land Use

On-site Landuse
The Latin American Community Center occupies the site. A fenced children's play area is found along Van Buren Street and the structure covers the remainder of the parcel.

Adjacent Landuse
This site is almost entirely surrounded by row houses. A police station across N. Van Buren (402) is the only non-residential use in the immediate area.

Presence of Children

The Latin American Community Center serves as a daycare as well as a community center. Children were observed at all hours of the day at the site on five separate site visits.

Exposed Soil

There are three locations on the site where interaction with the soil is possible. An old tree planter in the sidewalk where the tree has long since died and two landscaped areas inside the children's play area.

Area covered in grass or mulch: 124 Area of directly exposed soil: 32

Conclusion:

No tannery related waste is present in surface soil around the multi story building.
